Contains correspondence to Chapman from Harmon Goodwin, a fellow weaver from South Berwick, Me., ca. 1912; over 80 weaving drafts on paper and wood created by and/or collected by Chapman; over 60 photographs of coverlets and their patterns documented by Chapman; and 5 small woven samples. Much of the correspondence from Harmon Goodwin is instructions on how to draw and how to weave, with notes about drafts he corrected for Chapman. Three of the letters contain several references to Laura M. Allen, a noted basket-maker, hand-weaver, and collector of early textiles and weaving drafts. Many drafts in this collection are done in pencil; seven are done on wood. It appears many were drawn or copied by Chapman, sent to Goodwin, and returned with his comments. Others are original designs by Goodwin sent to Chapman with instructions on how to follow the draft and the "best" way to weave it. The photographs, ca. 1910, are of coverlets. The woven samples appear to have been meant for instruction and practice.
